How It Works

  • Spell It – Participants play using the WordOnyx card game, forming as many valid words as they can.

  • Tell It – They then use the words they formed to create an original story, which they submit on our website. The best storytellers are taught how to animate their stories. They submit their final animated stories for judging.

  • The Grand Finale. Participants, Parents, and Teachers are invited for the finale competition. Winners receive prices and awards at our bi-annual celebration event.

The WordOnyx Spell It Tell It Challenge is a literacy competition where children form words using the WordOnyx game and then use those words to create and submit an original story.

The challenge is open to pupils/students within the specified age or class category, Ages 8-13, or Primary 3 to JSS3.

There are three rounds: Round 1: Word Formation using WordOnyx cards. Round 2: Story Writing (Tell It Round). Round 3 (Final): Live/Recorded Story Presentation or Performance.

Not necessarily. We provide a simple guided storytelling template to help them build confidence. Creativity and effort are rewarded.

Word Formation is scored based on Scrabble-style letter values. Story Writing earns bonus points for creativity, neatness, vocabulary usage, and originality. Optional: Presentation earns confidence and expression points.

Yes, the participation fee is ₦6,000 per student. This covers access to the game session, materials, and evaluation.
