COMPETITION RULES

Fair play ensures everyone has a great experience.
✓ Eligibility & Entry
Participants must be between 8 and 13 years old.
Minimum 10 spellers per school; maximum 2 teachers/coaches allowed.
Check-in and tagging start at 08:00 AM.
Only registered spellers and audience members will be admitted.
✓ During the Competition
Whispering or signing during rounds results in disqualification.
Virtual play: 360° camera check may be requested; no external devices.
Maximum 2 minutes to rejoin after disconnection, or forfeit the turn.
All participants must adhere to the competition guidelines.

Who can participate?
Children aged 8–13 as of the competition date. Both school teams and individual participants are welcome.
Can an individual register without a school?
Yes — individuals are welcome to register directly. School participation is encouraged but not required.
What is the minimum number of contestants per school?
A minimum of 10 spellers is required for a school team. Smaller groups may register as individuals.
What is included in the registration fee?
Entry to all challenges, the approved word list, digital practice quizzes, a certificate of participation, and StoryLab Adventure training. The ₦8,000 package also includes physical Word Onyx cards.
When and where is the 2027 competition?
The 2027 competition holds on 13 May 2027 in Abuja. Full venue and schedule details will be communicated to all registered participants.
Do contestants receive practice materials?
Yes — an approved word list, digital quizzes, and StoryLab Adventure training are provided after registration.
